Biography

Dr. V. Prakash Reddy is a tenured Professor of chemistry at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, Missouri. He has received Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, and M.Phil. from University of Hyderabad, India. He has carried out his postdoctoral research with Professor John E. Baldwin at Syracuse University and with the Nobel Laureate Professor George A. Olah at the University of Southern California. His research interests are in the cutting-edge interdisciplinary areas of synthetic and mechanistic organic and bioorganic chemistry, drug discovery toward neuronal disorders and other age-related diseases, carbocations and electrophilic reactions, superacids, and organofluorine chemistry. He has published about 100 journal articles, book chapters and two books (Elsevier Publishers).

Research

Expertise areas

Organofluorine chemistry, Synthetic and mechanistic organic chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Lithium Ion Batteries, Superacids, AGE Inhibitors/Breakers, Neurological disorders.

Research interests

Our research interests are in the frontier areas of organic, physical organic, and bioorganic chemistry, ranging from synthetic organic chemistry to organic and bioorganic reaction mechanisms, organofluorine chemistry, green chemistry, nonaqueous electrolytes, protein modifications, oxidative stress, superacids, carbocations, and asymmetric Friedel-Crafts reactions. Some of our recent contributions include novel synthetic methods for trifluoromethylations; selective kinase inhibitors as therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders; AGE-inhibitors for mechanistic investigations of aging process and as potential therapeutics in various age-related diseases; and nonaqueous electrolytes and anion receptors as sustainable materials for lithium-ion batteries.
