Dr. Monday Uchenna Okoronkwo joined Missouri S&T as Assistant Professor in the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering department in August 2018. He received a B.S. in Chemistry (First Class Honors) from Abia State University Uturu, Nigeria, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for two and a half years before joining Missouri S&T.
His research efforts are directed towards understanding materials' composition-structure-processing-property relationship, and applying a combined computational and experimental approach to design, synthesize and develop new materials that deliver improved performance and sustainability.
Chemistry of Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure, Energy, and Environment:
-Eco-efficient alternative cement and concrete materials
-Hydration, microstructure, and durability of cement-based materials
-Nanotechnology and application to cement-based systems
-Advanced admixtures for cement and concrete systems
-Rheology of cement-based materials and complex fluids
-Thermodynamics-based design of materials for sustainable infrastructure
-Mitigation of deteriorative reactions in cement-based materials
-Inorganic electrides for thermoelectric applications
-Nanocomposites and functional materials for water treatment
-Waste immobilization and conversion
