Dr. Monday Uchenna Okoronkwo joined Missouri S&T as Assistant Professor in the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering department in August 2018. He received a B.S. Chemistry (First Class Honors) from Abia State University, Uturu, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Aberdeen. Before joining Missouri S&T in August 2018, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for two and a half years.
His research efforts are directed towards understanding the composition-structure-processing-property relationship of materials, and the application of a combined computational and experimental approach to design, synthesize and develop new materials that deliver improved performance and sustainability. His research thrust areas include:
Chemistry of Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure, Energy and Environment:
-Advanced chemical admixtures for cement and concrete
-Hydration, microstructure, and durability of cement-based materials
-Nanotechnology and application to cement-based systems
-Eco-efficient alternative cements
-Rheology of cement-based materials and complex fluids
-Thermodynamics-based design of materials for sustainable infrastructure
-Mitigation of deteriorative reactions in cement-based materials
-Inorganic electrides for thermoelectric applications
-Nanocomposites and functional materials for water treatment
-Waste immobilization and conversion
